As I expected, Mercy was wide awake at the crack of dawn. I convinced her to stay in bed until 6:30, but that was as long as she could handle so we got up and I didn't really sit down again until after 8:00 pm. I spent the morning finishing food preparations and deep cleaning the kitchen. I mopped all the tile, rearranged furniture, and even fit in some dusting and window washing that I didn't think I'd get to. It's amazing how much can be accomplished when your day starts at sunrise. Danielle, who was actually the one throwing the shower, arrived at 12:45 to set up and decorate. She lives in a small apartment and didn't have room to host, so I volunteered my home. She asked if I wanted to help with the food, so I took charge of that as well. I was really pleased with how my spread turned out:
Turkey and Pesto Pinwheels
Roasted Red Pepper Hummus with Pita Chips
Cucumbers and Snap Peas
Grape Tomatoes with Garlic Basil Cream
Fresh Blueberries
Candied Walnuts and Pecan halves
Chocolate Truffles
Lemonade garnished with Frozen Blueberries
We didn't get a huge turn out, but those who did come enjoyed themselves and I think Jen really appreciated it. Mindy brought her boys, so Mercy had someone to play with, and overall I think the shower was a success. Danielle stayed to help clean up and she left just before 5:00 pm. I then turned right around and got to work making dinner. The sister missionaries, a new trio, arrived at 6:00 and Matthew and the boys got home about ten minutes later. We ate pasta and listened to a short message, then I headed out with them to do some visits. I got home just as the kids were heading to bed, so I helped get them settled down, then Matthew and I spent a couple hours working on his scholarship application for the MBA program at UNM.
