School Party and Summer Haircuts

This morning Abraham, Mercy, and I went to Hyrum's end of year class party.

Abraham and Mercy were especially excited to play on the playground. Hyrum was a dutiful big brother, keeping a close eye on his little sister, and Abraham ran off with confidence and played like there was nowhere else he belonged. As sad as I'll be to see him go, he is absolutely ready for full day big boy school.

Mrs. Hoehne has been a great fit for Hyrum this past year, and so fantastic at communicating with me as a parent. I wish I could count on my children always having such superb teachers.

It was implied that not much else would be going on at school this afternoon, so we checked Hyrum out early and he came home with us. The boys asked if they could ride bikes at the dog park, but Mercy was asleep. The little field with a walking path around it is just a house away, but I've been waiting to feel comfortable letting them go by themselves. This afternoon I did, and just like that my boys grew up a notch and headed out to play down the street on their own. They came back after only ten minutes, which is about as long as I think we were all comfortable with, and everyone felt happy with their new found independence.

Since school is practically over and the warm weather appears to be here to stay, I decided it was time for the boys' summer haircuts.

For Family Night we built bottle rocket launchers in preparation for cub scout pack meting.
