Matthew got a new work phone and hasn't quite sorted out the alarm on it yet, so he slept in a bit this morning. After getting him and Hyrum off to work and school, I worked on getting the two littler ones ready. It was pajama day at Abraham's school, but pretty much all his pj's were dirty, so I threw a load of laundry in hoping it would get washed and dried before we needed to leave. I assumed he'd want to wear one of his "cooler" pairs, but he picked out a striped one piece from last winter that's a couple inches too short in the arms and legs and ran around like he was the coolest kid in school. My biggest hope for my children, after my desire for them to remain faithful in the church, is that they never become embarrassed by who they are or what they like. Confidence and the lack of concern for the negative opinions of others are characteristics I hope my sweet little Abraham will hold on to.
We met Hannah and the girls at Park West before school. The kids played really well together and Hannah and I got in about 10,000 steps walking. We dropped Abraham off and Mercy and I were both hungry so we came home for some lunch. I worked on the computer getting several things done and was interrupted around noon by a phone call from Megan, my visiting teaching companion. Turns out I totally forgot about an appointment we had to visit one of our inactive sisters. It was in my calendar and I know that at some point in the morning I had remembered and planned on being there, but somewhere between a demanding Mercy and my empty tummy, the appointment completely slipped my mind. I felt awful, but Megan was able to visit with this sister and the encounter was positive, so despite my absent mindedness, it all worked out well enough.
I continued to work on laundry and primary stuff and plans for upcoming events. Hyrum got home and while he started on homework, I started on dinner: black beans with bacon and red peppers over rice. Mercy took a little nibble of apple then spent the rest of the meal laying on the floor. For family night we practiced the boys' parts for the primary program, had ginger snaps for the treat, and watched a cartoon for the activity. After getting the kids to bed, I got on my bike to redo my 8 minute test. It's an hour long ride with a couple speed intervals and two 8 minute time trials used to assess functional threshold power (FTP). Matthew worked on carving out a pumpkin and stringing little doughnuts for cub scout pack meeting tomorrow, as well as entertaining Mercy who refused to go to bed. I finished my ride (FTP 96), showered, we finally got Mercy to sleep, and chatted for a while before getting to bed ourselves around 10:30 pm.
