October

The rest of this past week:
Wednesday afternoon I held a primary presidency meeting and that night after the kids were in bed I did my bike ride: 75 minutes of quick spinning with a number of focused technique drills. Thursday afternoon we met to visit teach Tallie and then dropped off a card and treat for Desirae. That evening I hosted book club and served warm spiced cider and molasses cookies for the refreshment. I also got my new phone. Matthew had Friday off and spent most of the day working in the garage. I did a bike ride (same one as Wednesday) and worked around the house. Our new living room chairs arrived in the afternoon. At 5 pm we met the Brown's at a spot near Tingley Beach. Jeb had agreed to take family photos for us in exchange for Matthew casting castle building pieces. It was raining, muddy, and cold. We posed for a few shots, but half of us were wearing mismatched sweaters and coats, and Hyrum grumped the entire time. At least we made the effort.

We came home for hot chocolate and popcorn, and started watching Tomorrowland. The kids weren't really into it and Abraham was acting a bit ill, so we put everyone in feety pajamas and tucked them into bed. Today was lovely and sunny and Matthew spent most of the day digging in the back yard. The kids were even able to play outside for a while. I worked on the never ending flow of laundry and started getting the guest room ready for company coming next week. We also used the last of the pink dye to freshen up my hair. At 4:00 pm we walked down to the Shaw's for their pre trick-or-treating party. Abraham cried the entire time and had to stop and lay down a few times because of a tummy ache. He curled up in a ball on their front step and begged to go home. So Matthew took Abraham home and put him to bed while I stayed out with Hyrum and Mercy. They had a great time trick-or-treating. Mercy was especially excited by the process and was particularly darling with her big grin and timid thank you each time someone put a piece of candy in her bucket. We finished our street, but Mercy was slowing down and refusing to walk, so we headed back home. Matthew went back out with Hyrum to collect a bucket of candy for Abraham. We were just going to have Hyrum split what he got on his second outing, but he wanted to give the whole loot to his brother. We gave out about 150 giant pixie sticks before I ran out and had to turn off the light around 8:20. Matthew left a little after 8:00 to go play D&D at Jeb's house. Mercy was up so many times that I finally let her crawl into bed with me until Matthew got home at 1:30 am. They got to play an hour longer because of daylight savings.

As far as October as a whole goes, I can hardly see past the blur of it. I've never felt so busy. There were three play dates, three dinners with friends, two appointments with the missionaries, two book club meetings, two baby showers, fall break for the kids, a ward party, a baptism, General Conference, cub scouts, and Halloween. There was also visiting teaching, ward councils, and it was my month to do Sharing Time in primary. I've done two weeks of TrainerRoad on my bike and Matthew started playing Dungeons and Dragons with a new group. It's insanity, and apparently we're right at home in it.
