Week in Review

We started this past week with a busy weekend. Hyrum and I spent all day Friday at Day Camp, then came home to quickly shower before attending the Bishop's daughter's wedding reception. Hyrum went to Day Camp again on Saturday. That evening we hosted a dinner with the Jensen's and Richardson's. Sarah Richardson was one of my dear friends from our early years in Indiana. Her husband recently accepted a job at Sandia and they came out for the weekend to do some house hunting. We didn't have much time with them, but it was certainly nice to catch up. It will be fun to get our kids together when they move out towards the end of the summer. That night Matthew hosted his D&D friends, though they played a new RPG in which they essentially played themselves warding off a zombie apocalypse.

The rest of the week was mostly taken up with laundry, cleaning, and getting ready for our next adventure. The kids did great without any screen time and even practiced piano and did their reading and writing exercises with minimal complaint. I made sure we got out of the house every day and the kids had plenty of social opportunities.

On Monday we made it to our first park lunch of the summer. We were joined at Park West by Hannah and her girls and the Jensen's. Afterwards we went to Sprouts. Matthew had some work stuff he needed to do when he got home and this was the first week we out right missed Family Night.

As soon as I got Matthew off to work on Tuesday morning the boys and I went in the back yard to pull weeds. They'd started to get out of control and early morning is the only time of day cool enough for the arduous task of digging them up. I manned the shovel and the boys were a big help in collecting what I dug up.

At 10:00 am I dropped the kids off at the Jolley's then went and picked up Dixie. She needed a ride to Smith's to pick up a prescription. I learned during our outing that her hired caretaker, Janet (who does her grocery shopping, errand running, and some cooking/cleaning), had her credit card and ID and supposedly hadn't been by for three weeks. This was worrisome to me, but she assured me that Janet would be by later that day. The kids stayed with Mindy until 2:30, then all six kids transferred to my house while she ran some errands. We all headed back to the Jolley's at 6:00. She fed everyone dinner in exchange for Matthew's help in putting up some blackout curtains. I contacted Dixie to see if she had gotten her groceries yet and found out Janet still hadn't come. She asked if I could pick her up a couple things, so Mindy watched the kids again while Matthew and I ran to the store and checked on Dixie. It was during our evening errand running that Matthew's temporary crown broke.

Matthew went to the dentist's office first thing Wednesday morning to get a new temporary crown. While he was gone, the kids and I met up with Hannah and the girls at Park West. We walked while the kids pretended to be Indian's and attacked us with pretend bow's and arrow's every time we passed. We came home for a bit, then went back to Park West for park lunch where the kids were able to play with the Jensen's and the Jolley's. Later in the afternoon the Luci and Cora came over for a while and Matthew spent nearly an hour sending the kids flying in the bounce house.

Today we met up with the Jolley's for park lunch at the purple park. It's not as close, but we really like Ms Rhonda the lunch lady there, so we made a special trip to see her. My dad arrived around 3:00 pm and my mom, who had stopped to do some shopping in Santa Fe, got here around 5:00. I made chicken and a curried potato and spinach side dish for dinner. Tomorrow we head to Pine Top, AZ where my mom has used her time share points to reserve us rooms at a mountain resort for a week.
