Hyrum woke up at 6:30 and I got up with him. Everyone else joined us in the family room about an hour later. We had a simple breakfast. At 9:30 we split up. I went by myself down to Provo to visit Krysta. I went a bit early so I could stop by the New Provo City Center Temple. Unfortunately, the Temple, including the grounds, were closed and I couldn’t get very close. Instead, I tried to drive around BYU. The last time I was on campus Hyrum was only a couple months old. Things have changed A LOT since then. Roads that used to go past familiar places no longer exist and I got very turned around, so I gave up and headed to Krysta’s house. She now lives with her cute little family in a darling yellow house Southwest of campus. We visited in her home for about half an hour, then went for lunch at Cafe Rio. We ate and visited in the restaurant for about an hour, then went to walk around the University for a bit. Her husband is a professor, so they have easy access to parking. We went into the Wilk and through the bookstore, then walked down a familiar route. She showed me the new Life Science building where her husband works and where a new engineering building is under construction. We then went over the the Creamery on 9th for ice cream cones and to check out all the impressive new housing that’s replaced Heritage Halls and Desseret Towers. We drove past the MTC and there’s been a lot of changes there too. Her Husband needed to get back to work, so we returned to her house and visited for another 20 minutes before I left at 3:00. It was good to see her and I’m glad she lives in Utah so our paths are likely to cross again.
While I was in Provo, Grandma and Matthew took the kids to the Planetarium. There are several new exhibits and activities that they had a fun time exploring. They also saw a show in the dome theater. Then they stopped by the London Market to pick me up a Lion Bar. At 2:00 they met Grandma’s sisters at Shawna’s church for games. Marci’s girls Jessica and Gabbi came as well and when I got there a little before 4:00 they were kindly entertaining my kids. I chatted with Gabbi for a bit, then she and I joined Jessica and Karen for a game of Pickle Ball. Karen and I were not very good, but we had fun trying. Matthew played Stone Age with Naomi, Marci, and Shawna. It was really fun to see them and I’m glad we made a gathering happen. Carolynn’s kids were sick, so sadly we weren’t able to see them.
Matthew started feeling ill during games, and by the time we got back to Grandma’s house he had a burning fever and his body ached all over. He got under several blankets on the couch and didn’t move again until morning. Abraham and Hyrum have both had red, gloopy eyes for a couple of days and have been coughing and sneezing. Abraham was noticeably worse and we thought for a while that perhaps it was just allergies, but by this evening they both developed sore throats as well. Sarah came home a bit early from work not feeling well either, so it’s pretty clear we’ve caught something. Grandma, Grandpa and I seem to be fine so far.
