It took a few days, but we finally all woke up having had a decent night's sleep. I made blueberry pancakes from a mix for breakfast then we gathered our gear for a hike. Grandma joined us as we drove only a few minutes from the resort and hiked the Country Club Trail. It was 3.5 miles long and wound around through ponderosa pines. About 2/3 into the hike there was a half mile off shoot that went up to the top of a hill. Matthew and Hyrum did the extra little hike and found someone had set up a little gnome village in the trunks of some trees.
Meanwhile, Mercy and Abraham rested and ate snacks in the hammock.
It was nice to be out in the woods, but I don't think any of us would consider this hike especially lovely or interesting. After a somewhat less than invigorating hike, the kids were anxious to spend some time swimming. There were a lot of people in the pool this afternoon making it rather loud and increasing the amount of extraneous splashing, so we didn't stay as long as we might have had it been less crowded. We returned to our room and watched TV for a while, then learned that Grandpa had decided to leave early so we made plans to have his birthday dinner today rather than Thursday. We ate at a Mexican place, then came back to our rooms for presents and ice cream.
The kids spent the evening down in the common room playing with the little girl from down the hall. After she left, they worked on a puzzle with an older couple. Matthew and I spent the evening and late into the night working on genealogy.
