We got up really early and left Albuquerque around 4:30 am on Christmas Eve. Mercy was a bit fussy as she was still getting over being sick, but otherwise the drive was easy and uneventful, and we arrived close to 3:00 in the afternoon. We spent some time getting settled in and just hanging out until Wes and Derrick came over and we had our fancy holiday meal. Naomi made gyoza and rice for dinner and figgy pudding for dessert. It was all delicious and we appreciate the effort she put into it. The kids went to sleep without complaint, we stuffed their stockings, and went to bed pretty early ourselves.
The boys slept in until nearly 8:00 am Christmas morning, and Mercy slept even longer. We let her continue to snooze while the rest of us read the story of Christ's birth then went upstairs to open presents.
Mercy woke up after everyone had already finished opening their gifts, so all eyes were on her as she unwrapped her pile of presents.
The rest of the day was devoted to eating treats and playing with all our new toys.
This was the year of the Nerf gun for our family. Everyone got a machine gun and a revolver, and I made bandoleros to hold darts for easy reloading. We brought along our other Nerf weapons as well, so after breakfast all ten of us braved the winter wonderland and went over to the church to have a giant battle.
In the evening we watched Guardians of the Galaxy and everyone was ready for bed when the time came. It was a lovely, laid back day, full of family, food, and fun.
We ran various errands this morning, then the big event of the day was to go walk around the (new to us) City Creek Mall and see the lights on Temple Square. It was really cold outside, so the kids didn't last long, but it was something I had been looking forward to and I'm glad we made the effort to go.
