Matthew was out of town and I was tired, so the whole eggs and candy thing was seriously down played this year. The boys got to do a bit of a hunt at a friend's birthday party on Friday and I decided that would have to satisfy Hyrum's obsession with collecting plastic eggs. After church (which was Stake Conference and all three behaved remarkably well) we ate sauteed summer squash and discussed why we celebrate Easter. Later in the afternoon I set out their baskets with a few eggs and some clearance bin items.
First, and most important, there was the candy.
The gummy bears I got them turned out to be absolutely delicious, and that's saying something because I'm not a huge candy fan. I got them some regular assorted flavored ones, and some sour ones. The latter were apparently not what they expected.
The second most exciting item was a pair of sunglasses. Abraham's and Mercy's lasted about 15 minutes, but Hyrum's made it all the way to bedtime. We got six pairs for .75 cents, so I'm not all that surprised. I really love the picture of Abraham in his shades.
Mercy was more interested in eating hers than wearing them. I'm pretty sure she's cutting some molars.
Mercy also got a stuffed Hello Kitty toy that she didn't look twice at, and the boys each got a Leapfrog dry erase book with numbers and letters and shapes to trace. Hyrum was really into it, but it only took about two minutes for Abraham's short attention span and general aloof-ness to remind me why we don't let him use markers of any kind.
All things considered, I'd say it was a reasonably successful celebration. We talked a lot about Jesus - what kind of person He was and why it's so important that He died and was resurrected. Abraham is a bit obsessed with the fact that Jesus was baptized and I try to really emphasize that He was the perfect example for us. I hope my children will look to Christ to know what kind of people they should be. I am grateful for His perfect life and for the Atonement, which makes repentance and progression possible.
Happy Easter!
