Mercy started her day out with french toast and a family trip to Walmart. She loves riding in the cart and getting a cookie, so it was a fun little excursion for her. Then it was time to open presents.
Her brothers were more than willing to show her how it is done...
By the third package, the boys were banned to the other side of the room and Mercy proved perfectly capable of tearing wrapping paper on her own.
She got a baby doll from mom and dad, a Dora the Explorer guitar from Grandma and Grandpa Johnson, and a hand sewn dress and bag of goldfish from Grandma and Grandpa Kress. She loved the doll. The crackers on the other hand, not so much.
She was fussy and rubbing her eyes, so we put her down for an early nap and she slept for a couple hours. After she got up and had a late lunch, the kids and I went for a walk. We had chicken fingers, pasta, and green beans (all of which she enjoyed) for dinner, and a very pink cake to celebrate the birth of our sweet little girl.
Mercy is our first baby to get the big piece of frosting covered cake experience. I'm sure at the time I had what seemed to be very rational reasons for not providing it for the boys, but now that we're on number three there are things that just aren't as big a deal as they once were. Or maybe some things are a bigger deal than they once were. Either way you slice it, Mercy got cake.
She went to town on the top layer of frosting, then realized she was all sticky and didn't find her situation all that amusing anymore. After a bath and clean pajamas, she was much happier. The kids all played in the bounce house with dad for a while before he left for work. Later on she was in the boys' room and her brothers used Abraham's rash cream to give her a mohawk, so she got a second bath and then spent the rest of the evening with me.
Oh how we love our girl. She is my absolute joy. The boys love having her around and Matthew is fairly smitten by her as well. We can hardly believe we've had her for a whole year, and are so grateful for the perfectly lovely baby she's been. Her name fits her in every way and we look forward to another year of Mercy.
