Project "New Floors" was not an ideal experience. We ran into a number of surprises and set backs, which in and of themselves are not to be lamented. We got some problems resolved and learned a lot. What is disappointing is that we had poor planning, poor communication, and poor execution mostly due to forgetting our true priorities. Our diligence in family and personal prayers and scripture study was feeble at best. We relied more on the arm of flesh and asked for Spiritual guidance less than we ever have before. I think a lot of what went "wrong" would probably still have happened, but some of it might not have, and either way we would have at least seen the Lord's hand in it.
As far as the logistics go, we are pleased with the floors themselves. They appear to be solid and we know they are mold-free. We will replace the carpet at some future point, but for now we're thrilled to have some kid friendly flooring back down. The tile however is not satisfactory. The grout is cracking and not holding things in place. We think our only option is to rip it all out and either tile again (the old fashioned way - sans trays) or pick a new type of flooring. We have submitted a complaint to Menards and hope for some kind of compensation, but I'm not holding my breath for a complimentary new floor. In the mean time, we are living like this:
It reminds us of our days in the 400 sq ft apartment we lived in when we first got married where the living room, dining room, and kitchen were all in the same space. I don't mind too much, though I do miss my washing machine and stove. I think it likely that at least two more weeks will pass before I have proper use of all my appliances.

So sorry that your floor project has taken longer than you originally anticipated. Like you, I sometimes get the cart before the horse and ask for God's insight/guidance when I am in the midst of a project rather than to seek his blessing/input at the beginning. Still, Matthew's parents have been a tremendous blessing to you all. :)sh
I know that owning a house is the grown-up thing to do, and it is how people build wealth . . . and someday I will . . . but the day I buy I don't think I will be all that excited, because it means responsibility. I like renting and having house issues not be my problem. I am so impressed with all your hard work and how well you are dealing with all the setbacks.
