Project "New Floors": Day 5

Life Lesson #7:
Happiness = Air Conditioning
It has been a hot summer here in Indiana and we have quickly learned that there is a direct correlation between good feelings and our collective temperature. Our AC did not work when we went to turn it on for the first time this season. A guy came to check it out and something inside had exploded rendering the unit useless. $2,800 for a whole new system is not quite in the budget right now, so we've been holding off until Matthew can purchase and install one himself for half the cost. It does mean however that we are working in 90+ degree weather and 60% humidity with nothing but a couple ceiling fans. Tensions were running high and mistakes were being made, so we broke down and bought a portable AC unit with a vent that sticks out the window. Sarah and I kept the boys upstairs in our bedroom and at least the four of us were feeling a bit better. Then a friend generously offered the use of another portable unit that we have put in the Purple room (where Matthew's family is sleeping) and today spirits are much higher. It's still very warm downstairs, but at least everyone slept well last night and there's some respite from the heat.
It has taken longer than expected to rip everything out, but today new sub-floor is being laid and some drywall replaced. The play room is just about ready to be painted and hopefully tile will start going down either this evening or first thing tomorrow. Here's what the boys have been up to during this whole process.

This kiddie pool seriously might be the best $15 I have ever spent. Hyrum could spend all day playing in it. Gotta love that farmer tan!

Our window air conditioners make the hot months of summer doable. We've been in the 90's since we got home from Indiana with rain almost every afternoon. I think we brought the tep. & humidity with us. I am happy that you have something to enable sleep and cool breaks during the day.

Ugh!! We only have a swamp cooler (which I know won't work where you are at) and it has been super humid here in Salt Lake the last couple of weeks. So we are just warm. One day we will be really cool and have A/C, but until then...
Adam bought a couple of those window units. He installed one in his office, and I need him to install the other one in the upstairs, but we don't know where to put it (my new bedroom furniture blocks the ideal window, curses). Can't wait to see pictures of how great the new floor looks!!

I love the pics of the boys! The one of Abe is adorable. Hope everything goes smoothly!
