We caught a rabbit in the trap we set up in the Jolley's yard on Monday. We let in out for Mabel to chase, and after a lap or two around the yard it managed to jump through the gate and escape into the neighborhood.
It snowed a bit on Wednesday morning, and the beauty of homeschool is that we could take the morning off to play in it. It's a good thing we seized the moment, because the snow was all gone by lunch time.
I attempted to shop at Walmart on Wednesday Afternoon. I stood in line for 45 minutes and didn't even get halfway to the door. The sun set and I wasn't properly dressed for how cold it got, so I abandoned the mission. I gave it another go right after seminary the next day. I wore a double layer of pants, a long sleeve shirt, a hoodie, and my double layered coat. My toes were pretty cold but otherwise I was much more prepared for the hour long wait. Once I was in, I shopped for everything I thought we could possibly need for the next two or three weeks because I did not want to repeat the experience any time soon. I was grateful that Matthew was able to work from home and get the kids going on school while I was out.
Yesterday morning I ventured out again to do some more shopping. I prepared for the worst, but was pleasantly surprised when there was no line at all at Albertsons and only a five minute wait at Smith's. I bought 7 pork butts at .98 cents/lb at Albertsons and stocked up on cereal and a few other sale items from Smith's. It didn't take nearly as long as any of us anticipated and I came home to Matthew and the kids cleaning the house. They were hoping to surprise me, but I got home hours sooner than they expected. I appreciated the thought and effort all the same.
Before freezing the pork, I prepared four roasts for pulled pork. It will be so nice to be able to just pull them out and stick them in the sous vide. Matthew is going to use the other three for homemade sausage. In the afternoon, we left the kids playing video games and Matthew and I ran several more errands. We went to Best Buy, Harbor Freight, Albertsons (5 more roasts!), the UPS store, Home Depot, and Tres Volcanes to collect school lunch. We didn't have to wait in too many lines, which was nice, and got a lot of annoying little items crossed off our to do list. In the evening we ate homemade pizza and watched Cat Ballou, Grandpa Kip's mom's favorite movie.
Matthew worked in the garage most of today, and I spent several hours deep cleaning my bike. Hyrum and Matthew had a stake priesthood meeting this evening, and afterwards, we played some of the trial portion of Dragon Quest VI.
