All three kids have finished reading the Book of Mormon!
Hyrum read it entirely on his own and finished first, a few weeks ago. He set a goal to read it before he turned twelve, and even restarted at the beginning of the year. He has been very diligent about reading without being reminded and has made it a priority this year.
Abraham read about half on his own and the other half with me and Mercy. His interest in the overarching story increased as we got towards the end and he sped ahead to see what would happen. He often had insightful questions and seemed to really absorb the main principles we discussed.
Mercy had the first half read out loud to her, then when we started homeschool, reading the Book of Mormon together became part of her lessons. Her reading abilities have absolutely blossomed and she reads from the scriptures about as well as either of her brothers. Mercy payed close attention and would stop to clarify any word or concept she didn't understand.
Reading the Book of Mormon together this year has been a true joy and top highlight of 2020. The Spirit has had a greater presence in our home as we've made scripture study a priority, and contention and violent arguments have decreased noticeably. What a blessing the Book of Mormon and the Gospel of Jesus Christ are to our family!
