Trunk-or-Treat

Since Matthew was gone, I let the kids have a sleepover with me in my room last night. Hyrum and I were both wide awake at 6:30 am. He got up and cleaned the bathroom, started his laundry, picked up his part of his bedroom, and tidied the loft. He then spent the next five hours playing a computer game. Abraham and Mercy were not as keen to do chores and opted instead to come with me to a baptism.

This evening was the ward chili cook-off, which they combined this year with the trunk-or-treat. Mercy was Fancy Nancy for the school carnival, but decided she'd rather pull out her old bat costume for tonight. Abraham also reprieved his costume from last year and was Greg from the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I threw together a Napoleon Dynamite look last minute. Hyrum had gone over to the Jolley's and rode with them to the church, so I brought his Nazgul costume and he changed in the car when he arrived.

Lots of friends were there and the weather was perfect. I strung up some lights in the back of the Highlander, handed out Airheads, and enjoyed the fact that my youngest was perfectly happy to run about with her friends and wasn't clinging to my side as she has done in years past. I'm so grateful for the good friends my kids have made. The activity started at 5:00, so we did as much dinner, candy collecting, and socializing as we wanted and were still all done and driving away before 7:00. That's my kind of activity!
