Utah: Days 4-5

We drove up to Wellsville yesterday morning, arriving at the Church owned recreation area around 11:00 where we set up our tents and ate our packed lunches. It lightly rained on and off all day so we were happy to have brought the Bell tent which comfortably fit everyone and kept us all dry. We had about five hours of down time, half of which was spent helping the Roderer’s set up for Patrick’s wedding open house. We used the rest of our free time to lounge about, play some kick ball, and explore.

The open house went from 5:00 to about 9:00 pm and was lovely. Grandma and I helped with the food the whole time (they served Navajo tacos) while Matthew visited and the kids ate way too much sugar. Once all the guests had gone and it was just family, we sat around a roaring fire with cousins eating s’mores and watching fireworks across the valley.

We had a leisurely morning after a night of camping. Abraham slept until 9am and we had to wake him for breakfast before it was all gone. Gabby took charge of making dutch oven German Pancakes for everyone, which was fun. It was colder than most people anticipated and the field where we were set up was slightly sloped so many people had issues sliding towards one end of their tents in the night. Our family slept reasonably well though and loved the site and experience as a whole. The only real bummer was that all three of my kids peed their pants at some point, Mercy twice. By the time we left she was wearing Abraham’s sweat pants sans underwear.

We helped clean up camp, then went over to the Roderer’s to help unload all their cars and clean up a bit there. We said our farewell’s around noon, then headed back to SLC. We decided to stop at the Hill Air Force Base Museum on our way home and spent a little over an hour there checking out all the old airplanes. After showers and dinner, we watched Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, then put our exhausted children to bed at 8:30pm. The adults played a few rounds of One Night: Ultimate Warewolf. While Matthew and Grandpa searched for worms in the backyard garden, Grandma and I spent some time sitting on the front porch watching the various firework shows being put on by neighbors, then headed to bed around 10pm.
