Recipes
Stromboli
I made two Stromboli's for the Dial's farewell open house, a pepperoni and a sausage and bell pepper. I made another just for our family a couple nights later. I used my calzone bread recipe and they turned out fine. I put too much cheese in the second one. I think it needs some tweaking before I can consider it a polished meal.
Asian Chicken and Corn Soup
I found this recipe in the magazine that came with several spices my mom gave me. The chicken was cooked in ginger infused sesame oil then served in a sort of creamed corn egg drop soup with fresh green onions. I was intrigued by the idea but while it turned out better than I expected, I don't know that it will make it into regular rotation.
Turkey Carnitas
A flavor filled boil followed by a few minutes in the frying pan is exactly the perfect use for the dark meat of a turkey. Next year I think we might skip the traditional Thanksgiving meal and go straight for the carnitas.
Stuffins
While I didn't use homemade bread, I did cube and toast a nice Italian loaf. A cream and egg mixture was used to combine that with sage sausage, onions, and celery, with some fresh sage added at the end. The mixture was then baked in a muffin tin, which created individual servings of crisp, delicious stuffing muffins. Delicious!
Food Storage
Smiths had a big sale on and I took advantage. I have a year's supply of white sugar and broth, and stocked up more on green beans, corn, and diced tomatoes. I also got some cake mixes, brown sugar, and pasta.
Projects
I made ninja hoods for Abraham's birthday party. I used black jersey knit, and while it took some time to finalize the pattern and cut the pieces, each hood only took a minute or two to sew.
I finished the first four weeks of my bicycle training. This portion was primarily focused on form drills and improving my technique, not so much strength or endurance. I think I'm better than when I started so the effort has been worth it.
