Grandma, Parks, and Piecing a Quilt

Grandma J and Jennifer came to stay with us for a few days.

They arrived on Friday afternoon and that evening we jumped right into the project which inspired their visit: a t-shirt quilt made out of all the shirts my mom has collected as a school teacher over the years. Before going to bed we had cut out the fronts and backs of all the shirts and had them roughly arranged.

We went over to the dog park for a while on Saturday morning, then spent a large portion of the rest of the day shopping for materials for the quilt and rocket building supplies That evening we started the process of squaring up each shirt and ironing on fusible backing.

I had ward council Sunday morning, then we went to church. In the afternoon we finished preparing the shirts and I started sewing them together.

The day for packing to begin at my dear friend Becky's house arrived, so on Monday I watched 4 of her 5 kids. We went to lunch at the park, where we met up with Mindy and Kjirstin. Then after some down time back at the house, we went to a different park to eat cake and celebrate the birth of Brie's baby. I stayed up late that night working on the quilt.

Mercy hadn't gotten a nap the day before and ended up falling asleep at 10:30 Tuesday morning. Grandma stayed home with her while Abraham and I went to lunch at the park and then did a bit of grocery shopping. I was able to finish up the quilt top by late afternoon.

My mom and sister left first thing this morning, and today we are doing loads and loads of laundry while enjoying a bit of down time after several very busy days. Tonight I am going out with the girls for fries and dessert at a route 66 diner.
