Sunday: Mercy woke up early, and was yawning and rubbing her eyes before we even left for church, so we had little hope of her behaving very well. She didn't even make it through the opening hymn before Matthew had to take her out of Sacrament Meeting. I spent all but about 15 minutes of Sunday School and Relief Society walking the halls with her. She took a good nap once we got home though. Abraham also got in a nap, we Skyped, and watched our Sunday evening woodworking videos. I stayed up reading perhaps a little later than I should have, but it was just so nice to be still and quietly absorbed in a good book.
Monday: Matthew and I spent pretty much the entire day sanding stair treads. The work went well though, and we were able to get the stain on before bed (which isn't that impressive considering Matthew's average bedtime lately is around 2:00 am). The boys mostly played at little kid Matthew's house. They caught another frog and spent several hours in the afternoon in the back yard playing with it. Mercy spent most of her day in the boys' room, though she and I did take a little walk around the block together and I was reminded how huge and fascinating the world must be at two feet tall. It's been a long time since I took a stroll with a toddler and I'm so glad I found the time for one today. For Family night Abraham gave his lesson on being baptized, I served vanilla pudding with fresh strawberries for the treat, and Hyrum chose to watch a super hero show for the activity. Our Monday evenings are so very predictable.
Tuesday: I woke up suffering from some crazy, inexplicable vertigo. I could barely stand up without getting nauseous and dizzy. It took all I had to take the kids to the Purdue fountain for an hour, and then I pretty much spent the rest of the day as still as possible. Matthew got the first coat of finish on the stair treads, touched up some patching in the bathroom, and built new shudders for outside the windows. We had purchased replacements a long time ago when they were on sale, but it turns out they don't fit. We could order ones for nearly $60 per window, so definitely cheaper to build our own. He even got them primed before going to bed at 1:30 am.
Wednesday: I felt much better today and was grateful to be productive. Mercy and I went to the store to restock our produce drawers, then she played/napped in the boys' room while I mowed and made lunch. I tried to let her play in her room while I worked on lengthening the dining room curtains, but she kept climbing my chair, pulling out pins, and grabbing at the hot iron cord, so she got put back in the boys' room while I sewed. After dinner I played outside with her for a couple hours. Matthew's stair treads were still drying, so he worked on various projects, mostly outdoors. He painted the eves and cleaned out the gutters, hosed down the outside of the house, and built a new post for the corner of the front porch. He also did a skim coat in the bathroom, sanded, and had a long phone conversation with his mom.
Thursday: Mercy and Hyrum played in the boys' room while I sewed on the curtains after breakfast. After I finished one, she and I went to the post office and grocery store, then home for lunch and she was ready for a nap. While she snoozed, I primed the downstairs bathroom. In the late afternoon I went to see a sister I visit teach, and the kids and I took a walk after dinner*. Matthew spent the day working on the outside of the house. He painted the the new post and other parts of the porch that had been repaired, patched and painted the garage door, the front door, and the shutters, and after the boys were in bed started working on the molding for the bathroom.
*Hyrum rode his bike and I followed with the stroller. We walked down to the woods at the end of the subdivision so the boys could play in the trees for a bit. Hyrum managed to step in a pile of poo which transferred from his shoes to his bike. He was so grossed out that he refused to ride it and it took us twice as long to get home since he was pushing it awkwardly, attempting to stay as far away from the poo as possible.
Friday: Mercy had her 15 month well child appointment today, so this morning was mostly taken up with that. I did some maintenance house work while she napped. Matthew put the shutters up and did the final coat on the garage door. He had left the front door and shutters out to dry last night, since the forecast called for 0% chance of rain. It didn't rain, but it was super humid and we woke to puddles of dew on the door. It had to be lightly sanded and repainted. Thankfully two coats sufficed and we didn't have to strip the door and start over. When we took the tape off, however, we found red paint on the white window frame, which I spent a long time picking away at. We got the door hung around 11:00 pm and are really impressed at how much the general appearance of the house has improved. Matthew also finished waxing the stair treads today, and I took all the kids to Meijer to fill a prescription and collect a $25 coupon.
Saturday: It is increasingly evident that we are getting tired. Really tired. We had a slow morning, not getting much done. Mercy and I went to a baby shower at 11:00 am, then she went right down for her nap as soon as we got home and I made everyone else lunch. Matthew got all the molding up and puttied in the bathroom, and started working on installing the stairs. I weeded behind the shed (a chore I've been avoiding, due to the spiders and other creepy crawly things that live back there) and took apart the antennae. I also made a make shift sprinkler for the boys with an old soda pop bottle, which was fun for about 20 minutes. After Mercy woke up, I put her in the boys' room with Hyrum and finished the set of drapes for the dining room. I played outside with the kids for a while, then the neighbor came over and said their babysitter fell through and asked if I'd watch their little boy while they went on a date. He was already in bed, so I didn't even have to do anything. They said my kids could come over as well, so we had a little family date night with candy and Avengers.
