Chocolate Milk Instead

This morning I set out to make yogurt. I boiled my water, scalded my milk and had just taken it off the burner to cool. The boys were both in the kitchen, Abraham hanging on my leg whining for more to eat and Hyrum begging to help me cook. Mercy was in the other room crying and in my distracted state, I added my start to the milk 65 degrees too soon. I was almost furious, but honestly, I was too tired for that. Since I had a big pot of hot milk and no more yogurt, I added some sugar and cocoa powder and made a gallon of chocolate milk instead.

This afternoon I set out to take the kids to the park for a picnic lunch. I feel like I haven't really spent much quality time with them lately and that they've been pushed aside in order to get things done, so I wanted to surprise them with something fun. I packed sandwiches and grapes and told the boys to get in the car. When I went out just a minute or two later, they were hitting each other and fighting about seat belts and complaining it was hot and generally behaving in an unruly manner. As much as I wanted to do something nice for them, I'm also getting so tired of their constant bickering and refuse to reward them for it. I therefore kicked them out of the car, gave them their lunches, and drove off with just Mercy instead. She and I went to the Celery Bog and had a lovely time walking around in the woods together. I wish the boys could have been there too, but spending half an hour outside with Mercy was definitely my chocolate milk from a ruined batch of yogurt.
