Book Worm

H: That's Hulk. He has really strong elbows.

Yesterday I put a show on for Hyrum to watch while I exercised and took a quick shower. He came upstairs 20 minutes later and exclaimed, "I hate movies. I don't want to watch any more movies!" Then came perhaps the sweetest words I have heard him utter, "Mom, can we go to the library and get some new books?" Yes, son, yes we can! I packed the kids in the car and after a quick trip to Walmart, we went to our friendly county library. Usually Hyrum heads straight for the computer on the pre-school size table, but this time he actually came with me to the shelves. A few months ago I discovered a series of early readers that feature all the super heroes the boys are obsessed with, and with joy and anticipation, he picked out two about Iron Man, two about Wolverine, a Pokemon story, and several "chapter" books starring Superman. He put them in his bag, carried them to the checkout desk, got his receipt and said thank you. He then cheerfully exited the building (something that I don't think has ever happened before) and immediately started pouring over his treasure trove the second he got in the car. I asked if he was ready for lunch when we got home, but with an indignant tone he said, "Mom! I have to read my books!" and proceeded to spend most of the afternoon on the couch with his library bag. He did ask to watch a show later in the evening, but the three of us spent some time outside instead, then first thing this morning, before breakfast or even going potty, he was back on the couch with his nose in a book. I'm so glad his obsession with tv seems to be waning and a love of reading is beginning to blossom.

Awesome! I've had my nose in a book too much of the time since we got home and I am so thrilled that Hyrum is catching the reading bug.

That is so awesome! Way to go! I would love to hear those words from my children! Sabrina loves that section of the library too but she's more into wonder woman and spiderman.
