I packed enough clothes for everyone to wear a clean set every day without having to wash anything, but I hadn't anticipated the sweat bathes we'd be taking every time we stepped outside. Various pieces of clothing were often changed when we'd get back from an outing, so by today I found I no longer had enough clean things to last the rest of the trip. This morning was therefore dedicated to running a load of laundry in the hotel's coin operated machines. They boys watched anime on tv and the forced rest wasn't a bad thing for anyone. After restarting the dryer several times, we gave up and laid our damp clothes around the room to dry while we headed out for the afternoon. Our first stop was the street vendors outside the Metro Center Station for an early lunch. Matthew got Salvadorian pupusas and I got Thai summer rolls. Both were pretty good. We walked down a few blocks and ate on some shaded benches, then spent a couple hours at the American History Museum. It (like half of DC) had several areas closed for renovations, but we enjoyed what we were able to see. More than the other places we'd visited, it was in this museum that it would have been nice to be sans kids. They did fine, but we had to go through some of the exhibits faster than we would have preferred. The boys ate their snacks in the museum's cafe, and we used what was by far the most inspired family restroom I've ever seen. It was huge, and not only had the customary toilet and changing table, but also a seating area to keep non-potty using persons off the floor and out of trouble.
We made it back in time for the boys to have a short nap, then walked back down toward the circle for another attempt at burgers. This time we tried a place called 5 Guys that is also critically cclaimed. It wasn't gross, but neither was it remarkable. Maybe we just aren't burger people. The evening was spent packing and getting ready to go home.

I am enjoying reading about your vacation. Too bad we are so close yet a 4-hour drive apart and we did not see you guys. DC is a lot of fun, though we have never toured it really well. When we lived S. of Baltimore we only ever made it to the temple. The thought of DC traffic was always too much for us and we gave up the idea of sight-seeing. Maybe someday, though with my parents I have been all over DC. They also lived all over that area, so it is something we have come to take for granted. I guess we are still less than an hour from Philly and definitely don't go there.
So I'm chuckling because I too have heard awesome things about 5 Guys, and kept thinking that we should go there sometime when we were in Chicago because I thought it was kind of a big-city thing. Guess what...there's one here in the Village. :-)
