It's FINE to be NINE!
Abraham has been looking forward to his birthday with anxious anticipation. He woke up with a positive attitude, chose to be happy and grateful, and in the end had a really great day. It started with presents. He got a hunting video game from the Kress grandparents, some piano books from the Johnson grandparents, drumsticks from Hyrum, a box of sour patch kids and a cute card from Mercy, and a robot kit from Mom and Dad. He was gracious and enthusiastic about his gifts. He had his requested German pancakes for breakfast, read his scriptures, brushed his teeth, and was off to school.
At lunch time, I brought him a burger, fries, and an ice cream. He quickly grabbed it from me and rushed off without saying much, but considering how much he hates being the center of attention in public places, I didn't expect much different. I also delivered a tray of cupcakes for him to share with his class and his teacher was thoughtful enough to send me a picture.
As soon as he was home from school, he was at the piano checking out his new books. One is of music from the Harry Potter movies, and the other is a jazz collection. He asked if he could practice for 90 minutes instead of the usual 40 since it was his birthday. Once Dad got home, it was all about the robot. The building of it was more involved than he anticipated but as he got into it, he was a little sad that it didn't take longer to assemble. He was very pleased with the end result.
He requested waffles with fresh berries and bacon for dinner. I also made him a cake and got ice cream, but after all the treats and sweet meals of the day, he didn't have much of an appetite for more dessert. We had to rush through dinner in order to get to cub scouts, to which he brought Rice Krispie treats. It can be a bit of a bummer when your birthday falls on a school day, but Abraham took it all in stride and made a great day of it. His final birthday request was to sleep in Hyrum's room. He only lasted about an hour though before he sleep walked upstairs and ended up in his own bed.
Abraham is silly, creative, active, thoughtful, talented, introspective, friendly, and often wise beyond his years. He is growing into such a good boy and is truly one of my favorite people on the planet. Everyone who knows him is lucky to have Abraham in their life.
