The kids had school off today because of local elections and it turned out to be the most glorious fall day imaginable. The kids have brought up wanting to hike the South Point trail a couple of times recently, so I decided today was the day. I sent out a general invitation on the ward Facebook page and we ended up getting quite a crowd. We had 19 kids, 6 adults, and 1 little dog. The kids ranged in age from 11 months to 17 years, and while most of them were in the 6 - 12 category which is prime hiking age, there were a couple younger ones who weren't all that interested in keeping up. We only made it in a little over a mile, but there was plenty of exploring and rock collecting and even a little bushwhacking to make up for the lack of distance covered.
Mercy went home with Susan after our hike, and the boys and I went home to start on some projects. Abraham had a report due while he was sick, and while we got the research and writing portion done, he still needed to finish the diorama element. All of our 3D printers are currently not working, so Sterling was nice enough to print Abraham a kangaroo rat, which he got to work painting this afternoon.
Hyrum is currently grounded for going to a friend's house last week without having finished his music practice, so instead of settling down in front of a computer game, he spent hours in the back yard building a table and chair out of scrap wood.
I collected Mercy at 1:30 and got home just as Becky was dropping off Esther and Micah. The other Jensen kids had a doctor's appointment. When they were done, Spencer and Ammon joined us and stayed until 4:30. After finishing up homework and eating dinner, we went back to the Brown's, traded Mercy for Haley, and then headed to the church for Activity Days and Cub Scouts. It was a busy one, but it was the kind of day that almost made me wish I home schooled. We had so much fun working on projects at our own pace, going outside, and just being together. I know not every day would be as dreamy as today, but today was definitely dreamy.
