Summer: Week 5

On Sunday there was a linger longer potluck after church. We contributed breakfast burritos thanks to leftovers from the father/son camp out.

Monday was the typical day of laundry and grocery shopping, in addition to the regular swim team and park lunch. Abraham broke his glasses camping, so we had to go order new ones, and since we were up near the mall, we popped in real quick to pick up some blue and pink hair dye. The kids, Abraham in particular, were fascinated with the mall and all the shops and things to look at. I forget sometimes how different their childhood is from mine. In the afternoon I dyed Hyrum’s hair blue. He chose a dark blue and his hair is fairly dark to start with, so it was pretty hard to see and he wasn’t quite sure how he felt about it. It was a semi-permanent dye, so I thought I’d have plenty of time to take a picture, but it washed completely out at swim practice the next day. There wasn’t even a trace left, which was odd.

After swimming on Tuesday, I dropped Hyrum off at the Jensen’s, then after a quick stop by the library, Abraham, Mercy, and I went to a play date at Malia's house. Malia was in Mercy’s class, and her brother Ace was in Abraham’s class before he got switched. Abby, their mom, was one of the Kindergarten teachers at the school. Mrs. Brooks (Jenna, now that she’s no longer Mercy’s teacher) and her kids came too. Mercy’s been asking when she could play with Gracyn and Malia since school got out, so I sent out a group text and Abby offered to host us. She provided lunch and the kids played happily for about three hours. It was really fun to get to know the mom’s better and I hope we can continue to build these friendships. That evening I met Matthew at the Temple and we did a session together.

Yesterday we did swimming and park lunch, then I spent several hours catching up on the blog while the kids played in the back yard. This summer has been particularly mild so far, which makes playing outside in the middle of the afternoon a special treat. The Barrios cooked dinner, then Cassie and I went to book club.

This morning we dropped Mercy off at the Brown’s as usual, but today she stayed there until mid afternoon. She had a fantastic time going to Costco with them. She was especially impressed by the "restaurant INSIDE the grocery store!" and loved that she got her very own cup of soda. The Jensen boys came over after swimming and we had them until around 2:30. We acquired Riker at Park Lunch, so for most of the afternoon I had six boys in my charge. At 3:00 I took Mercy over to play at Kinzlee’s, then my boys and Riker requested a transfer to the Jolley’s house. With all three kids at friends’ houses and Cassie and Beto on a job, I got to enjoy a whole hour of quiet and solitude alone in my house, which hasn’t happened since school got out!
