Instead of camping, we decided to focus this weekend on fishing. Friday we drove up to Fenton Lake and spent the day fishing for trout. I got my license this year and since we weren’t at a kid pond, I was able to actually put a line in the water. I caught five fish, though one was tiny and got thrown back. Hyrum caught the most and Mercy wasn’t interested in even trying. As a family, we probably caught close to our limit, but at least 7 were released for being too small and at some point the bottom of our fish net got knocked open and five trout escaped. We came home with eleven. We also came home with sunburned noses, ears, necks, and hands. Matthew ordered some pizzas from the road, which we picked up on our way home, and we finished up our fishing day by watching Aquaman.
This morning the kids and I joined the cub scouts for a little hike that satisfied some Webelo requirements, then Matthew and I took a couple hours to formally gather and pack everything we need for trek. After lunch, we met up with Jeb and the girls at Tingley Beach for some catfish angling. We got some rain and wind right at the beginning, but then the weather turned lovely and it was a perfect afternoon. The ponds had just been stocked the day before, and we had great luck. Hyrum caught two giant catfish, one weighing in at nearly 5 lbs, and Abraham caught one. It was a really great haul for Tingley! In the evening Matthew went to Jeb’s to play games and I worked on putting away five baskets of clean laundry.
Today after church we invited Jeb and the girls over for a fish fry. We had catfish po boys complete with Rémoulade and homemade rolls and slaw, filleted fish tacos, and smoked trout straight off the bone. It was all ridiculously delicious!
