This morning our sweet Abraham was baptized.
We discovered not quite two hours before the program was to begin that nobody had filled the font, so Matthew and Grandpa rushed off to the church to get the water running. The rest of us got there at 9:30 and were able to take some pictures and get settled.
There were four baptisms happening this morning, and the Stake decided that they should be staggered, one starting every 20 minutes. We only had one bishopric member in town though, and he had to preside and conduct for both our ward's services. Abraham does not like having the focus on him and didn't want much fuss made. He even said he maybe didn't want to be baptized because he'd have to be in front of everyone, so it worked out well for us to have a more condensed program. I led the singing and we opened with When I am Baptized, then Mercy said the opening prayer. Hyrum gave a short talk, then Abraham was baptized by his Dad (in less than two feet of water). As soon as they were changed, he was immediately confirmed. Then we sang I Love to see the Temple, and Grandpa Kip gave the closing prayer. Though the whole thing only took about 25 minutes, the Spirit was sweet and strong and it was perfect. The representative from the primary talked to Abraham one on one after the service, which he definitely preferred, and gave him his Faith in God book and a few goodies. The thing Abraham most wanted was treats afterwards, so I made sure to have the requested molasses cookies as well as Rice Krispie treats in the kitchen for our friends to enjoy. In addition to all our family, a few other families made it to support our boy, including the Jeb Brown's, the Stirling Brown's, the Danny Brown's, the Pipkin-Litster's, the Lignells, and the Hamblin's.

Abraham is a good boy. He soaks up all the gospel learning he is exposed to and applies it in ways and times I never expect. Though he often puts on an aloof air, he thinks deeply about things. I think he'll be the type that needs to put focused attention into every principle he gains a testimony of, but once he knows something, he'll never forget or abandon it. He is well on his way to becoming every bit the person his Heavenly Father sees he can be.
