Summer - week 2

I subbed in Sunday School on Sunday, teaching the 12-14 year old youth. It was super fun. Before church I had baked several batches of chocolate chip cookies and after church Matthew took Hyrum with him to deliver them to some of his ministering families. Later in the evening, we went as a family to deliver cookies to a couple more families.

Monday the real craziness began. The boys had swim team from 9-10 am, then Mercy had her swimming lesson from 10:15-10:50. Abraham had his district gifted testing at 10:30 and since I can’t be in two places at once, Matthew arranged things so he could work from home and help me out. He stayed at swimming while I took our one working vehicle to drop off Abraham. I then went back to the pool to pick everyone else up. We dropped Dad off at home, then Hyrum, Mercy, and I went to the first Park Lunch of the season at Park West. The email they sent me said that they would call me when Abraham was done, but when over two hours had passed since I dropped him off and I still hadn’t received a call I figured I’d better just assume no one was going to phone me. Poor guy had been sitting in the office waiting for me for over an hour by the time I got there. Mom Fail! We did some swimming in the afternoon, then met Jeb and the girls at Tingley Beach for some Family Night fishing.

Our mornings for the next two weeks will look much like Monday’s, minus the gifted testing. On Tuesday I brought some white boards and dry erase markers to help keep the non swimming kids occupied. Hyrum worked on writing the requisite report that follows the completion of a Harry Potter book and precedes the privilege of listening to the audio version. After swimming we come home and change clothes real quick before heading straight to park lunch. We went to Park West again on Tuesday. The afternoon was spent finishing chores and then swimming. Hyrum wasn't able to pass off his hymn the night before, so he spent a couple hours learning Come Unto Jesus before he could play. Matthew carpooled with Daniel Jensen and they were able to pick up the new pump for the Highlander on their way home. Matthew replaced the part, then found a blown fuse that also needed replacing. After $200 and a couple hours of labor, my car was fixed!

Wednesday was Swimming, then park lunch at the Purple Park. In the afternoon Abraham and Mercy went to the S. Brown’s for a couple hours. Hyrum lied about practicing piano and as a consequence had to stay home. I went to Sprouts. He was remarkably helpful and kind when I returned and helped me get the family chore done since we hadn’t had time for it earlier in the day. After dinner we all accompanied Dad to Walmart in pursuit of a battery for his boat motor.

Thursday after swimming we went to park lunch at Park West and brought our park friend Cody home with us for about four hours. Just half an hour after he left, the Stirling Brown’s came over for dinner and swimming. I made clam chowder and parker house rolls and both were truly delicious.

Today was Matthew’s day off and it was the first time in over a month that he was actually able to have it off. He had wanted to get up early and go fishing, but instead volunteered to take the kids to swimming so I could have two hours to myself. I took a leisurely 3.5 mile walk up around the school and along the petroglyphs and it was a lovely way to recharge. Afterwards, I took the kids to lunch at Park West where Abraham appeared to have a rather immediate allergic reaction to a plum, then came home and helped with piano. Matthew got one door for the shed glued together then headed an hour and a half South to Socorro for a stake youth pool party. I considered taking the kids and going with him, but we wouldn’t probably get home until 11pm and the kids are already starting to look like walking zombies, so we opted to stay home, have our own pool party, and get to bed at a reasonable time. Today was also our practice run at dog sitting Milo.
