Matthew got up at 2:30 am yesterday morning to go turkey hunting with Jeb and Matt. They drove a couple hours to the property of a friend of Jeb's dad and spent the morning trying to call in birds. Matthew shot at a jake, but was too far away and didn't get him. Jeb, though, was the big winner of the day, shooting a tom. They all had a ton of fun and Matthew's obsession with turkey calling has only intensified.
Matthew got home around 2:30 pm and had little time to rest before the boys got home and they headed off to the stake Father's and Son's camp out. While they were gone, Mercy and I met up with some friends for frozen yogurt, then we watched a movie and had a sleepover of our own.
This morning Mercy and I drove up to the Sandia Crest and met the boys for a hike. It was moderate in difficulty, the first non easy hike we've done with Mercy, and she trekked the 4.3 miles like an absolute champion. We rested at the tramway station to eat our lunch and saw a hang glider, a para glider, and a deer skull on a post, which made for some interesting sight seeing.
Abraham and Mercy both fell asleep almost as soon as they were in the car and when we got home we celebrated the success of another great hike with homemade milkshakes. This was definitely our kind of weekend!
