Today I was able to go with Mercy on her first school field trip. The timing didn't work out for me to get the boys off to school and meet up to ride with Mercy on the bus, so Mindy got Mercy and Riker to the school and I drove myself and met the group at the entrance to the Botanic Gardens. Since I wasn't at the school when kids were assigned to chaperones, I was able to just tag onto Mindy's group with Mercy, Riker, and Josiah. We explored the gardens, ate our sack lunches, and a reasonably good time was had by all. Other than riding the bus, I don't know that Mercy or Riker felt the experience was any different than any other outing the two of them might find themselves on together and treated it with equal parts complaining and enthusiasm. I'm glad I was able to be there, but I think Mercy might benefit from a few experiences without my presence.
