Oh Abraham! How up and down this kid can be!
In talking to Hannah (who just got her nursing degree) and Dave (who is a practicing pediatric ER doctor), we were alerted to the number of symptoms Abraham has that point to diabetes. He has heightened thirst, frequent urination, blurry vision, foul fruity smelling breath, upset stomach, and mood swings, in addition to a family history of the disease. Dave got a stick that tests for keytones and sugar in the urine from his hospital and brought it over to test Abraham's pee. It came out normal. We also used the machine I got when I was pregnant with Mercy to test his fasting blood sugar levels, and they were normal as well. With those two results, Dave says it's almost impossible that he has diabetes. The news is definitely a relief, but it still leaves us with the intense bed wetting issue and questioning why he's almost daily complaining of an upset stomach. I've taken him off dairy and have been watching his diet closely for the last two weeks to see if that helps, but so far the tummy aches haven't decreased enough to definitively point to a problematic lactose intolerance.
I wish I knew how to help him feel better, because perpetually feeling ill makes my little boy grumpy and prone to act out. Abraham can be so generous and sweet, but his alter ego is defiant and contrary and frankly driving me crazy.
