Sunday: Happy Father's Day! We didn't do anything too exciting. Actually, things got a little stressful before church, but we made it on time and I was able to substitute in nursery so Matthew could go to priesthood and get doughnuts. He talked to his dad for a long time while I made the meal he requested: lemon chicken and biscuits with peach cobbler for dessert.
Monday: Mercy and I went grocery shopping while Matthew waxed the hall floor. He's finally decided that it's as good as it's going to get and started putting up baseboards on the stairs. He also filled out and sent off some paper work for Sandia. I put away some laundry, tidied the bedroom, and mowed/trimmed the lawn. Working in the yard in the heat and humidity this afternoon was unpleasantly reminiscent of tracting in Miami. For Family Home Evening, Matthew gave a lesson on self discipline, we ate chocolate pudding for the treat, and we had a code for a free Red Box so we rented The Nut Job for the activity. We had salad and bread for dinner.
Tuesday: This morning I cleaned the kitchen, laundry area, and downstairs bathroom while all three kids played happily in the boys' room. And then it was time for lunch. I sometimes feel like I spend half my time cleaning up just to turn around and dirty things again. Today I also sanded some molding and finished half the curtains for the boys' room. Matthew's Humble Bundle account got hacked, so he spent the morning changing passwords, as well as doing the weekly finance balancing and going over his to do list. After lunch he worked on some of the trickier molding around the front door and along the stairs. He also fixed the pedal on the boys dump truck. We had Greek salad and pitas with hummus for dinner and Matthew let the boys stay up and watch an episode of Avengers Assemble before bed.
Wednesday: Everyone slept in today, so I spent the morning making breakfast as people woke up. Mercy was the last to rise at 10:30. As soon as she was fed and dressed, the kids and I went to a luncheon for a friend of mine who is in town for a couple weeks. There were a ton of kids, good friends, and delicious food. It was crazy hot, but lots of fun. While we were gone, Matthew worked on baseboards. Mercy, Abraham, and I all ended up taking naps during quiet time. The electricity went out (again) a little after 4:00, accompanied by a nice thunder storm. Matthew had a phone call scheduled at 5:00 to discuss why he didn't get the first Sandia job. Luckily he had the guy's phone number and was able to use the cell phone. We ended up eating peanut butter sandwiches and pears for dinner since we had no power.
Thursday: The kids and I went to the Lily Nature Center and walked around at the Celery Bog for Moms&Tots this morning. It was hot. And muggy. I brought a little picnic lunch, but the boys were so sweaty that they inhaled their sandwiches and asked to go home. In the afternoon I baked cookies, made custard, and almost finished the boys' curtains. Matthew continued working on molding and interview prep. I had our Relief Society's quarterly enrichment meeting in the evening and didn't feel like preparing a real meal that I would then have to clean up after, so we ate Ramen, green beans, navy beans, and pears. The activity went well. It did have to get moved indoors half way through due to rain, but the 21 of us that showed up had a lovely time and I won several pieces of chocolate for being the quickest to find miscellaneous items in my purse.
Friday: Matthew left at 7:45 this morning to help some friends finish moving out of their house. The weather was overcast and a bit stormy, but the kids and I went out for a walk around our neighborhood anyway. We saw two bunnies, several birds, and a dead frog, and then got rained on. Matthew got home around noon and after lunch continued to work on molding. I did two loads of laundry, hemmed and hung the boys' curtains, and played outside with the kids for a while. We had broiled chicken drumsticks and french fries for dinner and ice cream made from yesterday's custard for dessert. We got another free Red Box code, so we rented The Hobbit 2 for date night.
Saturday: We spent a good amount of time at Meijer this morning trying to capitalize on some grand opening sales and coupons. After lunch, Abraham and Mercy napped, Hyrum played games on his phone, I sanded molding downstairs, and Matthew finished installing molding upstairs. We had German pancakes with fresh strawberries for lunch and short order cafe for dinner. We were able to put away all the construction mess and Matthew set up his school computer downstairs in order to focus the next few days on interview prep.
