The New Home Improvement Plan

I am learning that part of being humble is accepting that my plan and the Lord's plan may not be the same, and then adjusting my plan to match His. We have been on our third attempt at finishing up the boys' room for about a month now and this week I have realized that perhaps my priorities are not in the right order. My goals are not bad, considering how everything has to get done eventually, but after some contemplation and sincere prayer, I can see the wisdom in focusing on some different projects first. As fun as it would be to have both the kids' rooms painted and looking lovely before the baby comes, I believe we would all benefit more in the long run from continuing on the organization kick Matthew and I are currently on. So, while the purple room is still purple and my sewing room/future baby's room currently looks like this:

...we have been busily organizing and upgrading the kitchen. Today I was able to consolidate the contents of our two big cabinets into one. The empty one will move into the play room to more effectively contain toys. I then organized our under the bed canned food storage (which I learned half way through the project that I am far too fat to be doing right now). Matthew built full extension drawers for my pots & pans cupboard and helped put everything away. Unrelated to the kitchen, but very worth doing, I was also able to clean both bathrooms and with the help of my dear husband who cleaned out the nasty p-trap in the sink, organized the contents of the upstairs vanity. This was all in addition to vacuuming the downstairs, putting away a load of laundry, and preparing two real meals. Whew!

I should have taken a before picture of this cupboard. Tupperware was running amuck on the bottom shelf.

Other projects this past week have included lazy susan's in the corner cupboard above the sink and the conversion of this skinny cupboard into an extension rack. It looks like we are a family of druggies, but most of the bottles are vitamins or supplements.

We're still working on a the best way to manage a spice rack, and there are a few odds and ends that haven't found a new home yet, but we are well on our way to a very organized kitchen.

Fun! Can you send some of that home re-do money our way. I'd love to get some big projects done. So fun! Maybe you can get Kip and Naomi to both come out after you have the baby and get them painting and organizing some more.

I have an awesome rotating maple spice rack that holds 48 glass jars. I ordered it from a small company in New England that makes them to order. One of my favorite kitchen items . . . well worth the investment. I buy most of my spices in bulk.

My next home improvement project is to replace my dishwasher, then the kitchen floor, then the kitchen counters and the kitchen sink.
