Summer Week Seven

For Sunday's family night treat I set out to make a vanilla soufflé. I guess I had been lulled into a false sense of competence because these soufflés did not go well. Granted, I was multitasking galore on top of two separate unexpected visitors at the door, so I'm not entirely surprised that I messed up a step somewhere along the process. The mix made far more than anticipated, which should have been an indication to me that something had gone awry. I called Cassie over to have dessert with us before I knew they were going to balloon. They still tasted alright, and she assured me that she's not opposed to eating all my ugly food.

On Monday morning, after walking and swimming, I made molasses cookies and pizza dough and cleaned up downstairs. The kids were very diligent getting their stuff done too because in the afternoon the Barajas were coming over. Abraham and Mercy were happy to be reunited with Ace and Malia, and Abby and I had a really wonderful visit.

Susan took the kids to swimming on Tuesday, and when they got home the boys both asked for haircuts. I made ricotta, did some cleaning, and worked on the computer a bit.

Susan took the kids to swimming again on Wednesday, then Mercy had speech and we stopped by to pick up park lunch. I worked all afternoon on the blog. In the evening I went with Hyrum to youth night. I've been asked to help with the ward youth campout and on Wednesday we split into groups to go do rescue visits and invite less active young men and women to the camp.

I drove everyone to swimming on Thursday, then afterwards spent a long morning grocery shopping. It was finally a new month and the budget reset, so I was able to stock back up on pretty much everything. Cassie went to pick up the multi-day school lunch, so I stopped by her house on the way home for our share of it. In the afternoon we went to the library and in the evening Brother Shaw came over to call me to be one of the rotating sacrament meeting music conductors. I now have three callings, though one will be over in a month. Matthew had High Council that evening as well, and I made a coffee cake while he was gone just because.

The Susan Brown's left for a long vacation trip, so they weren't at swimming this morning. Matthew decided to tag along though to see the kids' progress. Unfortunately for him, they were having a play day because of the Independence day weekend and hardly spent any time in the pool. Matthew worked in the garage the rest of the morning, the kids lazily got their jobs done, and I made custard base then spent a couple hours proof reading the flattening jig plans. In the afternoon I took Hyrum over to the Bishop's house to help prepare food for the ward 4th of July breakfast. Afterwards the YW presidency and the two of us called to help with camp met together to iron out details and make assignments. We mixed things up a little for our family date night and instead of pizza, we had hamburgers and frozen custard while watching our weekly show.
