Even though the 4th was on a Sunday this year, we still managed to celebrate and feel reasonably patriotic. After a lovely long nap after church, I got up and made Navajo Tacos. The Barrios came over to eat with us and do some sparklers and small fire crackers. Lucas liked the sparklers, but was not a fan of anything else. After they left, we laid on the trampoline eating candy and watching an impressive amount of neighborhood fireworks late into the night.
Monday was the observed holiday, so everyone had work off. Beto invited the boys over to play their Dragon Ball Z video game, so the kids spent several hours over at the Barrios. Matthew worked all day in the garage filming the slab flattening jig and I did chores and worked on some camp stuff. In the late afternoon we went over to Bishop's house for Kaitlyn's farewell dinner. They made a crazy amount of pizza in their back yard pizza oven. We contributed brownies (Kaitlyn's request). The Jolley's and Haltli's were there as well and we enjoyed a long evening of visiting, eating, and working on a 1,000 piece puzzle.
We had a normal Tuesday morning of swimming, chores, goals, etc., then in the afternoon the kids all went to the Jensen's. I went over to Mindy's, along with Hannah and Ashley, to watch Emma. I brought freshly baked scones because that seemed like the right type of thing to eat while watching a Jane Austin story. The rest of the family joined us later on and Mindy fed us dinner in exchange for Matthew going with Dave in our truck to pick up a couch and ping pong table from Costco.
On Wednesday, while the kids swam, Hannah and I went on a bike ride. We took the same route as before, but went a bit farther than last time (just about 10 miles total). Mercy had speech, then we stopped by Sprouts followed by park lunch. In the afternoon the boys went to the Jolley's and I spent several hours editing the sled video.
Hannah and I walked around the high school track during swimming on Thursday. Afterwards I did some grocery shopping, made chili to dehydrate, and got a pulled pork in the sous vide. Kaden came over for a couple hours in the afternoon and I continued working on the sled video. We had our pizza/Loki night a day early because Karen and Carolynn were coming into town and we weren't sure what the weekend was going to end up looking like.
Matthew took the kids to swimming yesterday while I did a bit more editing, finished up the pulled pork, and made chocolate chip cookies. Eliana came over about 3pm to play with Mercy, and the rest of the gang joined us for dinner around 6:00. It was fun to visit, and the kids had a great time playing together.
This morning Mercy and I joined Cassie, Carolynn, Karen, and Eliana for pedicures. I didn't get one because it think they are expensive and I don't like people touching my feet, but Mercy had her toes done for the first time. I think she like the end result, but maybe not so much the experience as a whole. Carolynn's kids played at our house all morning, then everyone went over to Cassie's around 3pm for copy cat Café Rio. We stayed until 7:00 and the kids were all very sad to separate when it was time to go. My kids were clearly exhausted and all willingly went to bed early. Matthew went over to Jeb's to play Fortnite with him and Sterling, and I stayed up well past my bedtime baking a coffee cake and editing the sled video.
