Matthew's uncle Ryan called Saturday evening saying that he and Kristine were driving home from Utah and wanted stop by this morning to say hello. We originally planned on having a breakfast for them at Cassie's, but Carolynn's kids had a rough night and they just wanted to get on the road home, and Lucas had come down with a stuffy nose and hadn't slept well either, so the breakfast got nixed. Instead they popped by Cassie's for just a moment, then spent five minutes at our house before following us to church. We visited with them briefly after Sacrament Meeting, then they were on their way. They are such a funny, flighty couple, but they make us feel so loved and we are glad we were able to see them for a minute.
After church, Hyrum and I had ward youth council. We came home and ate the coffee cake I had made for the breakfast that didn't happen, then Matthew and Hyrum were off to the stake center for APYW and stake youth council. They got home around 7pm and Abraham made everyone blueberry pancakes for dinner.
Matthew slept in on Monday, so we didn't have time for our usual morning walk. I took the kids to swimming, then spent many long hours editing pictures and getting caught up on the blog. In the afternoon, the Jensen kids came over.
Susan picked the kids up for swimming on Tuesday. I made fruit and nut coconut couscous to dehydrate, and peanut butter cookies just for fun. The school lunch pick ups changed, so now I can go just once a week and get 5 days worth of food, which is nice. Kinzlee and Addie came over to play with Mercy in the afternoon and in the evening I took dinner over to the Esquerra's who are moving this week. Matthew and I managed to get our walk in after the kids went to bed.
We had a typical Wednesday morning with swimming, speech, and picking up park lunch. Hyrum went over to Harry's for D&D while we were gone. I spent the afternoon making sausage and pepper pasta to dehydrate and cleaning up downstairs. We did a swap with the Browns and while Mercy played with Olivia at their house, Haley and the boys played Kirby all afternoon here. In the evening we had youth activities. I went down the street to one of YW leaders' house to help tie dye pillow cases for camp. Meanwhile, the YM met here at our house. I'm not entirely sure what they did, but they left a massive amount of dirt and mud all over my floors.
Thursday was a typical cleaning day, with a fair amount of camp prep and other computer work thrown in for good measure. Since we knew we had different Friday night plans, we had our pizza and watched the finale of Loki.
We had planned on going backpacking this weekend, but there was no way we were going to get Sarah's table done in time if we didn't stay home. Matthew spent all weekend working on it and made really good progress. I spent quite a lot of time out in the garage helping where I could and generally enjoying his company. Sometimes, when you want to spend time with someone, you have to meet them where they are.
To make up for the lack of backpacking, we invited Ace and Malia to come over for a backyard camp. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire and set up two different tents (one for the boys and one for the girls). It was the first time our friends had cooked food over an open fire (we lost several hot dogs to the flames) or slept in a tent. It was all very exciting for them! We were going to do a movie outside with the projector, but it was too windy, so instead they watched The Princess Bride inside then headed out for the night. Hyrum slept in his hammock tent, and everyone seems to have had a pretty good night.
Abby picked her kids up at 9:30, and then Abraham and Mercy had an activity at the church. I collected the primary aged Jensen kids and took them all, then made arrangements for Becky to pick them up so I could go run errands with Matthew. We went to Woodworkers Supply, Home Depot, Walmart, and Krispy Kreme to get a free vaccine doughnut. He and I got a lot of work done. The kids were grumpy and quarrelsome all day, so they were put to bed early while Dad and I went on another lovely night walk.
