Malia and Mercy have birthdays less than two weeks apart. Abby, Malia's mom, had promised her years ago that she could have a sleepover when she turned 8, and Malia was determined to hold her mom to that promise. Because of Covid, getting together with friends has been tricky. Luckily, Abby is a teacher and by the time their birthday's rolled around she was fortunate enough to have been fully vaccinated, so on an infectious disease level she felt comfortable having the kids over. Both of us are wary of sleepovers in general and the dodgy things that can happen at them, but we felt good about this particular arrangement, so we set a date during APS spring break and made it happen. The kids were SO excited!
I dropped Abraham and Mercy off after we were done with school yesterday and Abby had a whole host of fun food and activities lined up for them. I stayed and visited for a bit, but when it was time for me to go, my kids didn't even notice I was gone. They were definitely ready for a change in scene and society.
Abby reported that Abraham said he was tired around 10:00pm and slept so soundly that he didn't stir at all when Ace started throwing up around midnight due to overconsumption of cheetos and pinata candy. The girls stayed up much later, chatting about everything under the sun. They did some more crafts in the morning, and I arrived to collect them a bit before noon.
Over all, it was a smashing success and they were all already looking forward to the next time they can get together. Since Abraham and Mercy were gone for the night, Matthew took Hyrum with him to Jeb's and they, along with Luci, played Fortnight until midnight. I stayed home all alone for the first time in months, and had as lovely a time as anyone. It was a win for everyone!
