Today we drove across town and hiked in the Sandia Foothills. Sarah Richardson suggested an unofficial trail at the end of a residential street off Montgomery. Abraham had a pretty sour attitude for the first quarter mile, then discovered the trail required us to climb over rocks and boulders and suddenly it was the best day ever! Every other rock needed to be sat upon and he and Mercy were adventurers on a quest. They ran ahead to hide and took turns choosing which fork in the road we followed. The view from the top of the crest we climbed showed us the entire city and the kids loved being able to spot their school from the other side of the valley.
We were on the lookout for rabbits this time, and spotted at least seven. Unfortunately, it turns out the land we were on is private. We hiked within site of the fence separating us from public wilderness. I wonder if we saw so many bunnies because they know we can't shoot them.
In an attempt to make the last day of school extra special, we stopped on the way home for ice cream.
