The main point of our trip to Denver was to get the kids together, so Saturday was spent just letting them play. It was chilly, and much windier than would have been ideal, but we still made it to the park for a picnic lunch and a couple hours on the playground. In the evening the kids watched another movie and on the whole I think everyone had a good time.
Sunday we attended church in the ward and building that I grew up in. I hadn't been in the Quail building for nearly two decades and it was a bit surreal being there again with my three kids in tow. There were several people I knew still there, including the Calley's, Jentzch's, and Allred's. For me, those two hours were the absolute highlight of my trip. I fondly recollected the many experiences I had as a youth and it made me so grateful for the good people who influenced me as a teenager.
In the afternoon, the kids put on a talent show. Abraham and Luke practiced and played Hot Cross Buns together on the piano and showed us their ball catching skills. Mercy and Calvin made some paper puppets and put on a little show. Hyrm recited an Article of Faith and built a card tower. They watched one last movie, and that was a wrap on their fun weekend together.
The Sleight kids were back to school this morning, and we set off for home not long after they left. I handed out significantly fewer snacks during the drive, and the tablets all stayed packed away in the back of the car the entire time. In addition, I gave Abraham and Mercy motion sickness medicine, which seems to have also helped. It made Abraham sleepy and he napped nearly the entire drive. We didn't hit any morning traffic at all, which was amazing, and made great time. We stopped for lunch at McDonald's in Raton and made it home without incident around 4:00 pm.
