Mercy got up and opened her presents first thing. She got a new swimming suit, a dress, and a shirt and shorts from us, a Supergirl doll and glider from the Kress grandparents, and two ponies that Grandma J knit for her.
After breakfast she went over to Kinzlee's for her usual Monday morning playdate. Jen went above and beyond and made little cakes for them to decorate. After her playdate we took her to school, where Mercy was beyond excited to share the store bought package of cookies she picked out. I told her I would make cookies, or cupcakes, or whatever treat she wanted to share with her classmates, but she was adamant that the package of Chips Ahoy was what she wanted. We picked her up from school and she played on the trampoline and with her new toys until it was time for her party. She couldn't narrow down who she wanted to celebrate with, so we went with a family dinner similar to the one she had last year and it was the perfect way for Mercy to celebrate. She loves all her friends, and her friends' siblings, and her friends' parents, so inviting her favorite family's was the way to go. The guest list included the Jolley's, the Jensen's, the Jeb Brown's, the Stirling Brown's, and the Walz' (17 kids and 11 adults). We had breakfast for dinner and on the menu was pancakes and waffles with a selection of toppings, sausages, hash browns, scrambled eggs, Yoohoo's, and cinnamon rolls (made by Jen). Mercy wanted a lemon cake and purple frosting with her name and the number 5 on it. I made a double wide cake with lemon on one side and chocolate on the other. Both cakes had corresponding pudding in the middle. She was pleased and our crowd ate most of it so we didn't find ourselves with too much leftover. Her friends gave her some thoughtful gifts and she definitely felt the love they all have for her. She is a lucky little girl to have so many people care so much for her.
Mercy has such a big personality, full of thoughts and feelings and energy. She is so excited to be five and looks forward to doing and being everything that goes along with the age. Happy Birthday to my sweet baby, who (according to her) is now officially a big girl!
