Fishing

Last night we met up with the Brown's and the Brown's at Pizza 9 for dinner. The Brown kids had a cousins party while the Brown parents all went to a movie. Matthew and I opted out of seeing the film and offered to take our kids fishing. Abraham and Mercy were bums and didn't want to go, so Matthew dropped me off at home with them and took Hyrum. I put the littles to bed early and Hyrum caught his first fish. He was very proud of his 14 inch trout, which he named Bob, and in honor of his accomplishment, Dad took him to get his very own rod.

This morning, while the boys were at karate, Matthew worked on smoking Hyrum's fish. It was delicious and the whole family enjoyed tasting some of it. After spending the morning running errands, and the afternoon getting chores done, we asked the kids if they wanted to go fishing again. Abraham and Mercy learned their lesson not to decline such an opportunity and all enthusiastically supported the outing. We met up with the Brown's and Brown's at Tingley Beach, around 6:00 pm. Matthew got the kids set up, then he and Jeb went across the way to set up trot lines in the Rio Grande. Mercy lost interest after about five minutes and Abraham lasted closer to 20 before he got bored of sitting and waiting. Hyrum spent a little time running around, but mostly he fished. The security guard starting coming around to kick people out around 7:00. No one had had any success, but then as Hyrum was reeling in his line after the guard gave him a second warning to get his pole out of the water, he caught his second fish!
