For record keeping purposes, I'm calling the middle part of our backyard the courtyard. After we finished preparing the ground for the shed, we started working on the courtyard area. We cleared out the brick buildings the kids had been building, filled holes, roughly leveled the ground, laid weed barrier, and shoveled in a shallow layer of gravel. Eventually we plan to put in artificial turf. For now though, we are focusing on weed prevention while still providing a reasonably enjoyable space for kids to play.
