We met up with the Richardson's and the Walker's at Boca Negra for a little Monday morning hike. The Walker's have been attending Family School for over a decade and I knew Sarah would appreciate the opportunity to talk to Heidi about it. Bailey was so sweet about helping Mercy and Andrew is always a joy to have around. After our hike, we and the Richardson's went to the park next to the Taylor Ranch library to play on the zip lines and eat our picnic lunches. I'm so happy to have one of my dearest friends live near me again. I hope that when school starts and life gets busy, we still find time to get together. After we parted ways with our friends, the kids and I drove up to the nice Smith's to do some pre-birthday party grocery shopping. The kids had their fill of screen time that afternoon while I did a couple hours of food prep.
We met up with Hannah and the girls at Sundoro South to walk on Tuesday morning. Susan and her kids joined us about half way through our time there. The rest of the day was mostly spend doing chores. Scott came to practice piano at 3:30 and after dinner Matthew went over to Sterling's to work on the 3D printer.
Wednesday was my super fun birthday of excellence!
The kids were crazy on Thursday. Every time I tried to start a task (scripture reading, laundry, dishes, bathroom cleaning, etc.) someone needed something. They fought and whined and were exceptionally needy. I got next to nothing done that I needed to! Matthew got home at 2:30. I dropped Mercy off at the Jolley's then the remaining four of us went over to Painted Sky to meet the boys' teachers. Abraham's first grade teacher is Monica Gonzales. She seems nice. She was understanding of Abraham's frequent need to pee and assured us that he would not get bored in her class. Hyrum's third grade teacher is Elizabeth Brown. He's excited that his class is in one of the portables this year. The room is barely decorated and his teacher seems very straight forward and down to business, which I think will be perfect for Hyrum. It's hard to really get a good feel for what a teacher will be like with just a couple minutes of interaction, but my initial impression is that both will be good matches for my kids. After meeting their teachers, we dropped the boys off at the Jolley's then went to sign them up for fall swimming lessons. Unfortunately we missed when registration opened and all the sessions are already full. Matthew and I then stopped by the Rice's, another new family in the ward. They had a full size bed and frame they were getting rid of and offered to us. Next we ran by Walmart really quick for a waterproof mattress pad, then rushed home to set the bed up in Abraham's room as a surprise for him. I picked the kids up 5:00 pm and Abraham was pleased with his new sleeping arrangements. After the kids were in bed, Matthew worked some more on the front room and I cut out fabric for a baby quilt.
I spent Friday morning sewing a rag quilt for Trisha's baby shower gift. I used a new diamond die and made a chevron pattern. Once we figured out that this piece needs to be sewn with a 3/4 inch seam, the whole thing came together really well and only took me two hours to finish. I got the blanket in the wash, then took the kids to the Jolley's. They played there for 2.5 hours while I returned some skirts that didn't fit Mercy and got school supplies at Walmart. I also went to Old Navy to see if I could get some uniform clothes for Mercy that would fit. Turns out toddler girl uniforms are really hard to come by! That evening we were invited along with several other families to have dinner with the Danny Brown family. They made an impressive buffet of navajo tacos, enchilada casserole, and green chili stew. We left around 7:15 and after family scriptures I left Matthew to get the kids in bed while I walked down the street to Ashley's house for Trisha's baby shower. The party was fun and I dominated the "don't say the word baby" game. I started falling asleep once 10:00 pm rolled around and my friends sent me home. Matthew had been mudding while I was gone and finished up just as I returned.
