Saturday Snapshots

I set out early this morning to take advantage of Smith's case lot sale. Food storage has really been on our minds lately and I was grateful for the chance to stock up on several highly used items at a decreased price.

The rest of the day was spent watching General Conference. We looked out the window about half way through the morning session to find that it was snowing great big flakes that actually stuck for about half an hour!

I particularly benefited from Elder Ballard's talk during the afternoon session about goals and plans. He said that goals ought to looked at more as a destination and our plans are the road map to get us there. Matthew and I have talked a lot about wanting to serve missions when we retire and have made some financial decisions to make that possible. This talk though made me realize that there are a lot of other things I need to be doing now to prepare if a mission really is my goal. I remember making a lot of decisions in high school and early college based on my goal to serve and that preparation made a huge difference when I actually made it to the field. I can't imagine what my mission would have been like without it. It's probably silly to think that just because we retire we'll be ready to serve, so I need to make sure my body is healthy, I'm continuously studying the scriptures, and I'm practicing sharing the gospel now. I was also generally inspired by all the talks that essentially said, if there's something you know you should be doing, do it. There are a lot of things in my life I don't need, and many things I could have more of. I'm so grateful for the wise council of Prophet's and Apostles to help keep me on track.
