Matthew and I acted impulsively on Saturday morning by rearranging most of the furniture downstairs. We moved the TV, a grey couch, and a blue chair out of the front room and into the great room by the fireplace. We then moved the remaining couch and chair along the wall where the TV had been and moved the piano that had been in the great room into the front room. The change definitely makes the great room more cozy and not so big and empty, but now the front room is pretty bare. There's plenty of room now for the bounce house though, which we set up for the first time in quite a while. The boys have gotten a bit big for it and were treating it more like the trampoline and less like an activity for Mercy sized kids. Abraham flipped into his brother and gave Hyrum a black eye.
Matthew, Hyrum, and I started our fast on Saturday after lunch. We fasted in gratitude that Hyrum got baptized, for help with our goals for this year, and that Abraham's cough would go away and he'd feel better. Hyrum did a great job fasting. He didn't complain, even though not eating was clearly very hard for him. We broke our fast after church on Sunday then Skyped with the Kress'. The kids played upstairs while Matthew and I napped by the fire. We had tortilla soup for dinner, watched some wood working videos, then after the kids were in bed I made a pan of caramel brownies just because they sounded good. I knew Hannah had been craving brownies as well, so I cut her a big piece and drove over at 9:00 pm. We ended up visiting for over an hour and I drove home grateful for yummy treats and a good friend.
Matthew wasn't feeling well when he woke up Monday morning, so he decided to work from home. He had a bunch of things that he was updating and installing on his work computer, so between hitting the ok button, he helped me cut out fabric for three flannel blankets and a baby quilt. Between loads of laundry, I did some designing, ironing, and worked on sewing the patches onto Hyrum's scout shirt. It's fun to have the random, unexpected day with dad, and Mercy was definitely soaking up the attention of her lunch companions.
Matthew was feeling better on Tuesday, but decided to work from home again. I took advantage of his presence and went to Smith's by myself, then spent much of the afternoon at the sewing machine. The quilt I'm making is for Hannah's sister Sarah. She commissioned the owl quilt for her first baby, and has asked for a monkey quilt for #2 which is due the end of February. I'm super pleased with how the design is turning out, and I've been able to piece it almost entirely out of my fabric stash which not only means I don't have to run all over town looking for what I want, but I'll also make a rather decent profit. Tuesday evening Matthew hosted his book club.
Mindy invited Mercy to spend the morning at her house, so I dropped her off and went to Sprouts. I spent the rest of my morning alone working on odds and ends, eating lunch while watching a show, and generally enjoying the peace and quiet. That night was Hyrum's first den meeting as a cub scout. He was a bit confused as to what to expect, but was definitely pleased when the activity turned out to be watching a Charlie Brown show about the Mayflower. His leaders were pleased to find they're gaining a calm cub and not another wild kid, of which they have plenty.
Thursday I worked on blankets and hung out with Mercy. Matthew worked from home again on Friday because his new table saw was due for delivery some time during business hours. It came around 2:30 and he disappeared into the garage after that. He did take a break around 4:00 to go help someone in the ward move a piano, but otherwise spent the rest of the day and late into the night putting his new toy together.
