Saturday Shenanigans

This morning I helped host a baby shower for Danielle Garcia. This was another one where someone else did all the scheduling, inviting, decorating, and games and I provided the food and location, which is definitely my favorite way to throw a party. We had a good turn out and it was a lot of fun.

The menu: roasted red pepper hummus, pita chips, spinach dip, homemade harvest wheat bread, queso, tortilla chips, crudites (carrots, snap peas, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes), panna cotta with fresh berries, Oreo truffles, and lemonade with frozen blueberries. Leslie, the primary hostess, contributed lemon cupcakes.

The baby shower finished up around 12:30 and not long after we got invited by the Brown's to go sledding. We didn't have sufficient winter gear for an actual snow activity, so I ran out to procure boots and mittens for the kids. I had to go to a couple different stores because it turns out that Walmart's in Albuquerque don't carry water proof winter wear. I bought Hyrum some hiking type boots that we then sprayed with water proofing stuff, but I couldn't find similar foot wear in Abraham's size so he had to make due with sneakers and grocery sacks. I did find proper hand protection for all three children, but neglected to pick out some for myself so I just wore little cotton gloves and tried not to get too wet. Matthew was fully equipped already and stayed perfectly warm and dry.

We met up with the Brown's at their house and followed them to I-40 and Tramway where we met up with Hannah's brother's family. We then drove up to Sandia Crest where the snow was deep and fresh. There were a fair number of people there sledding, but we got there late enough that it wasn't too chaotic. We had a great time playing and remarkably no one got hurt and no one complained about being wet or cold. We stayed until about 5:30 and got down off the mountain as the sun set.

The kids all had wet pant hems and soaking socks and I wished I would have brought dry things for them to change into, especially since we decided to join the Brown's for dinner. We ate at a taco place in various states of undress, but it was certainly a special treat for our children and nice that I didn't have to come up with a meal after such a full day. We got home about 7:15 pm and Jesse was already there for D&D. We dumped all our sledding stuff in the front room and Matthew went straight into gaming mode while I got all the kids bathed and in bed.
