My Mom and Sister left Monday morning not long after we got the boys off to school. The rest of the day was rather typically filled with laundry, bathroom cleaning, and blogging, as well as a couple hours of primary work.
Matthew wasn't feeling well on Tuesday morning, so he stayed home and in bed all day. Despite his upset stomach, he was kept quite occupied with Ultima Online, a computer game from his youth. Mercy and I went visiting teaching in the morning and I spent much of the afternoon in the sewing room making a baby blanket for a sister in the ward. That night I was invited to attend a special evening with the activity days girls.
Matthew decided to attempt working from home on Wednesday since so many of his office mates were still not well and had also opted to stay home. He needed to study for an exam he has to take, so he thought he'd try reading the text book whilst monitoring the progress of his online game. Needless to say, it wasn't a very productive day on the work front. I, on the other hand, had a very productive day. Normally Mercy would have gone to Mindy's house, but Scott was staying home sick and I didn't feel inclined to expose us to whatever illness they have. Matthew offered to keep an eye on her though, so I was able to run up North to do my monthly weigh in and make a trip to Jo-Ann's for fabric for a new project. I also did some grocery shopping. It was early release day for the boys, so I helped them finish up their homework and was able to start cutting the aforementioned fabric. Matthew has requested a quilt acting as a giant checker board on one side and a tic-tac-toe board on the other. It'll be bulky to sew, but not difficult. At 5:30 we fed the sister missionaries dinner, then at 7:15 I left for book club. This month we read Sarah's Quilt by Nancy Turner, which I very much enjoyed.
Matthew thought he'd give working from home another go on Thursday, and this time did a better job of putting his game on the back burner and actually got some good studying done. I worked on the checkers quilt in the morning, then in the afternoon my presidency came over for a primary meeting. It was a very productive get together and I feel comfortably prepared for the craziness that comes with the end of the year.
Despite feeling fine, Matthew figured he might as well spend today home as well and had another reasonably productive study day. I spent quite a lot longer than I anticipated trying to get a decent picture of my latest rag quilt. I worked on the checkers quilt a bit as well as some other chores, fed everyone dinner, then headed off to the Flying Star Cafe for Jen's baby shower. She told me how much she loved the blanket I had posted on Facebook and was shocked and extremely pleased to find out it was for her.
It's always a bit strange to have Matthew around when he normally isn't, but I thought I did a pretty good job of going about my business as usual and not distracting him from his attempts at working from home. I certainly had plenty to do to keep me occupied and out of his hair. While I don't know that it will become a regular habit, it's good to know it's possible.
