We picked the boys up from school yesterday afternoon, then drove a new, really beautiful route through part of Arizona and up to Blanding, UT. We came across a really pretty lake somewhere in the Navajo Nation and stopped to use the toilets there. Once in Blanding, we stopped for some dinner at Subway, which was just about our only option, then arrived at Matthew's Uncle Ralph's house a bit after 7:00 pm. Ralph and Jaqueline live in the house that their pioneer ancestor Lemuel Hardison Redd Jr. built for his second wife, Lucy Lyman. We visited with them for a quite a while and finally got the kids to sleep around 10:00 pm, which is way past their normal bed time.
This morning we were treated to waffles and fried fish that Ralph had caught in Lake Powell. The kids entertained themselves by exploring the house and yard, petting the bunnies, and chasing after the cat. Around 10:00 we rode in Ralph's Audi 25 miles South to Bluff, where we visited the settlement that Lemuel Hardison Redd Jr. helped establish. We drove past the house he had built for his first wife, through which Matthew and his family descend, Eliza A. Westover, then explored the Fort.
We drove back up to Blanding around noon, said our goodbyes, and made the final 5 hour leg of our journey to West Jordan. We stopped in Moab to rearrange seating and get some lunch, then again in Price for a quick bathroom break. We got to Grandma and Grandpa's house right around 6:00 pm where the kids got right to work playing with Sarah and all of the fun toys. Naomi made us chicken and dumplings for dinner, the kids got to bed at 8:30 pm, then Matthew, Kip, and I made a quick trip to Walmart. There was talk of playing a game or watching a movie, but everyone was tired so we just went to bed.
