The Jensen's moving truck arrived first thing Tuesday morning, so Daniel dropped the kids off at 8:30 am and we had Spencer, Esther, Ammon, and Micah over for about five hours. Everyone but Mercy and Micah spent most of the morning in the pool. We had an early lunch, then watched a Winnie the Pooh movie for quiet time. There was just enough time for a little bit of Mario Cart before the Jensen's left around 1:30 pm.
I made the kids take some more quiet time in their rooms, more for my sanity than for theirs, then at 2:30 Mindy brought her boys over for play date #2. Our friend's brought graham crackers and milk for an afternoon snack, then everyone but Mercy and baby Teagan (who Mindy was tending) swam for nearly two hours. They left mere minutes before Matthew got home. We had taco salad for dinner, then I changed my clothes and left for the church. Several callings need to be switched around in Primary, so I asked to meet with the Bishop and one of his councilors to go over options. It was a productive get together. I got home at 8:45 pm, exhausted, having had hardly a moment of down time all day.
After such an intense Tuesday, I was hoping for a really relaxed Wednesday. Unfortunately, Matthew's truck mysteriously broke down just as he was arriving to Base. He was able to get it safely to a parking lot and wanted to figure out what was wrong with it sooner than later in case it turned out to be a big fix. He instructed me on what tools to bring him, then I packed the kids in the car and we met him outside the entrance gate. After a lengthy trip to Auto Zone, Matthew dropped the kids and I off at Manzano Mesa park and went to work on his truck. He replaced the battery and alternator which had partially melted, having to make a second trip to Auto Zone. Thankfully I thought to grab a couple packages of fruit snacks and some juice boxes because we were stuck at the park for nearly three hours. It was a bit nostalgic being at the playground we visited nearly every day when we first moved to Albuquerque, but it was also pretty hot and nobody was sad when Dad finally returned for us. He got the truck running, but wasn't sure it wouldn't have issues again, so after getting the kids some chicken nuggets and ice cream cones, we followed him home. He spent the rest of the afternoon working remotely on his lap top, the kids played their video games, and I went about my regular business of homemaking.
I spent Thursday morning going through the massive pile of give away items that had taken over a corner of our bedroom. Then the kids and I delivered the little girl clothes that Mercy has outgrown to the Miller's, and the boy clothes that Abraham has outgrown to the Moore's. We then hit the park for our last summer lunch of the season. There are a couple parks closer to us, but the main reason we always went to the one on Miami was Ms. Rhonda the lunch lady, or as Mercy calls her, "the Mama who gives me food." We love her and look forward to lunch with her again next summer.
After the park, we ran to Smith's to take advantage of a great sale on peanut butter. They had Jif, as well as Smucker's strawberry jam, for .99 cents. We bought every jar on the shelf, as well as several family size boxes of cereal for 1.99. It's been so hot, and the kids behaved well, so I also purchased some popsicles which were greatly enjoyed once we got home.
Matthew came home early to finish getting the Wii working the way he wanted, and while he said he was going to do some work related reading after the kids went to bed, instead he played a farming RPG until 11:30 pm.
Today I was determined to take it easy. Matthew went into work late this morning, having gotten the Wii and all the new controllers working. After the boys got their piano practicing out of the way, the kids played wii sports while I puttered around working on small odds and ends. Some contention broke out, so we turned off the TV and immediately everyone turned into super heroes for the rest of the morning.
The rest of the day was about as low key as the morning. We had lunch and a faux quiet time (both Mercy and Hyrum snuck into Abraham's room, but they stayed relatively sedate and no one was fighting so I let it slide), then some more Wii. I even played Super Mario Brothers with them for almost an hour. When Matthew got home I made a trip to Walmart for the rest of next week's groceries and got stuck there for a while due to a massive rain storm that came through. The rain on the roof was so loud not a single other noise could be heard, and it fell in great sheets of water so dense that the nearest row of cars in the parking lot could barely be seen. There was five inches of standing water in some parts of the lot after it was all over, and a river that ran over my shoes which I had to wade through to get to my vehicle. It reminded me of the monsoon season in Miami. After the kids were in bed, Matthew packed for his conference trip and we stayed up talking for a while.
