Tell City

The stars aligned for us to take a trip down to Tell City, IN to visit Matthew's grandpa. Matthew's brothers were flying out for a few days and we haven't seen them in years, so it turned into something of a family reunion.

Wednesday, December 11
Happy Birthday Matthew!
The original plan was to leave really early and take a minor detour through Louisville to attend the temple. We double checked for special closings the night before we left though and discovered it was closed for it's annual cleaning. We were bummed, but glad we found out in advance rather than when we got there. Instead of a temple trip for Matthew's birthday, we slept in, had Mary Lou's cake doughnuts for breakfast and took our time getting on the road. We ran a few errands on the way out and arrived at Grandpa's around 4pm. We had Spaghetti and meat sauce for dinner and had a lovely time chatting before bed.

Thursday, December 12
The kids and I hung out at the house while Matthew and Grandpa drove to Evansville to pick up Wes and Derrick. We had hot dogs for lunch when they got back and enjoyed catching up with them. Matthew and Wes took the boys to Walmart just to get out of the house and they had a great time chasing each other up and down the isles with foam swords and Captain America shields. That night Matthew and Derrick stayed up 'til 1am talking.

Friday, December 13
We all spent some time going our separate ways. Wes and Derrick took Grandpa's car for a drive, and our little family went to McDonalds for ice cream and de-wiggling in the play area. We parked by the river for a while and watched some barges float by then drove around Tell City for a bit. We ate roast for dinner and after the kids were in bed, Matthew and his brothers went bowling.

Saturday, December 14
Kathy made a big Ham lunch and Keena and Kevin & Lorie came over. Then the big boys went across the street to see Kevin's house. Later in the evening Derrick came with us to Walmart to pick up some travel food for the next day. We then drove to Santa Claus, IN to see their big Christmas light show. Hyrum enjoyed it quite a bit, but poor Abraham fell asleep in the car and missed most of the lights. He woke up well enough though when we stopped by the big tourist shop and got our picture taken with Rudolph.

Sunday, December 15
We packed up the car, then went to Sacrament Meeting at the little Tell City branch. It was a nice meeting and Mercy worked her magic once again, smiling and cooing at the lady behind us who later told me she had been really missing her granddaughter and was cheered up by seeing my sweet baby. We picked up Wes and Derrick at Grandpa's house and dropped them off at the airport on our way back to West Lafayette. We pulled in around 5pm to find a good 6 inches of snow on the driveway. Poor Matthew had to go out in the 20 degree weather and shovel a path so we could unload the car.
